But, you're right.
When you start doing them, most things take a whole lot more work,
and a lot more attention to detail than they looked like they
would. For example: I thought it was simple to operate a checkout/cashout
station in stores. Until I did it a few times. I've never been
impatient at checkout again!
The same principle applies to starting
an Internet marketing business. On the same time, you can factor
down the essence of doing business online, into five steps.
The reason for doing so, factoring down, is to help beginners
visualize complex undertakings in an orderly, step by step way.
Breaking down large tasks into smaller steps, introduces
simplicity into the picture. Many novices require this to believe
they can succeed. Most of us won't enter uncharted waters unless
we have a certain amount of faith in attaining a desired outcome.
Uh, we won't start unless we're
reasonably sure we'll succeed.
Naturally, the
required amount of faith differs with the person...duh? If you're
still with me, you've no doubt figured out I've been telling you
to take everything you hear with the proverbial "grain of salt".
Information is mostly a good thing.
But, any information is only as good as it works for your
specific situation. Don't trust without testing. And, you probably
don't need more information (about learning how to achieve a
certain result) until you've made an honest test of the
information you already have.
With your permission, one more
warning before we get to my Internet business start-up steps...
Don't be bamboozled by anyone. Rely on the grain of salt
principle. Test everything out for yourself. Test small and
you'll lose small. Bottom Line: "It's always a 'theory' until you
personally test it!"
Let's get back on the clock with today's story: You can start your
online business in only 5 simple steps...
In order of importance: (presented with a 'grain of salt')
-
Find a identifiable group of
people who are already buying related products and services
which have wide enough profit margins to make it worthwhile for
you to market to the market. (Yep, market to the market!)
-
Do searches in your favorite
search engines and find out where these people hang out and how
you can systematically, and repeatedly reach them with your
marketing messages.
-
Make a list of the products and
services your market is now buying, how they're buying them, the
price points, and make a list of whom they're now buying from.
-
Research your chosen target
market's present suppliers. Look for ways to take advantage of
any weak links in your possible competitors selling processes,
in their marketing messages, with their delivery systems, their
follow-up methods, their products usability and dependability,
etc. Then test and track different tactics to exploit any
'holes' you find.
-
Using your findings from
steps 3 & 4, get your marketing message in front of your target
market. Your primary message is: how and why your market will
benefit immediately because you're filling the 'holes' your
competitors are leaving open.
Again, rarely is doing anything as
easy as it appears on the surface. Each
step does suffer from the "cashier" syndrome example we talked
about earlier. There are separate actions, different theories to
consider, and to test, before each step's completion. All this
takes work. But you can learn how to do step one. Then you can
learn how to do step two, etc...
Distilling the overall concept of
how to start an Internet marketing business into five steps helped
me. Knowing what the steps are, and working through one
step at a time, will be much easier than trying to
do everything at once.
But then, you'll never know
until you test this information for yourself.
